2014 was such a wonderful year for us. Among the many, many wonderful projects, The Chris McDonald Jazz Orchestra’s No Pews Required and two big album releases in Latin music, Oscar d’Leon’s Classicos de Big Band and Ricardo Arjona’s Viaje were especially fun to contribute to.
Shows, shows, shows! We produced recordings for six musicals, including the star-studded World Premiere Cast Recording of James and The Giant Peach by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Timothy Allen McDonald, as well as a full length reference recoding of Mary Poppins for Disney Theatrical. We also produced promo recordings for national tours of Nice Work If You Can Get It and others, four shows and parades for Disneyland Tokyo, a new Halloween show for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and, yes, two Elmo shows for Sesame Street Place! Our last show of the year was Glorioso 2014, the huge Christmas celebration in Manaus Brazil, composed by Joe Alfuso.
In video game audio, I mixed a big chunk of the scoring for Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Stories for Namco on PS3. I especially enjoyed collaborating with this fantastic young composer/arranger Zac Zinger. I also composed a main theme for a student game and gave several lectures at Belmont University on the basics of and job possibilities in Game Audio.
2014 also saw DRR&P add print engraving of scores and parts as well as Piano/Vocal and Piano/Conductor book creation to our long list of client services. While we’ve always had an incredible team for copying our session music, our flagship engraving project was Disney’s Mary Poppins, with scores and parts for two orchestrations (16 and 11 pc), Piano/Vocal, Piano/Conductor and Libretto vocal books. It was indeed a trial by fire! As with everything we do, we looked hard at all of the smallest details and are very proud of the materials we helped create.
Here’s wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015, we’re certainly looking forward to it ourselves!
